Loving
- Opening Prayer
- Devotional by Andrew Song will be given in August.
- Guiding Spiritual Purpose Statement: The Leadership Board of North Scottsdale UMC prayerfully leads with gratitude and discernment, stewarding God’s gifts and ensuring every decision, action, and gathering nurtures spiritual connections that draw us close to God’s presence and mission in our lives.
Learning
Mission: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19 2025
Goals:
-
- Every ministry team, class, or church group will identify (in one sentence) how what they do nourishes and builds up spiritual connections with God, to be read at the beginning of each gathering and possibly shared with the larger church, because every church activity should bring us closer to God.
- We will inspire and support 50 people to engage for the first time in activities at NSUMC that are beyond the pew by participating in small groups, classes, service opportunities, ministry teams, or other church roles beyond worship attendance by December 2025, because everyone has a unique gift to share in building the kingdom of God.
- We will increase our church’s impact on the world by inspiring and equipping 50%, approximately 225 members of our congregation, to engage in outwardly facing service activities within the next year, because our church and our world need to experience God through our service to the world.
- Leadership Board Packet Approval Consent Agenda and discussion topics
- Safe Sanctuaries policy updates – these were not included in the packet, so Cathy will email them to the Board members for an email vote.
- The Board approved adding the statement ” Churches are exempt from paying unemployment insurance due to their 501(c)(3) status under the Federal Unemployment Tax Act (FUTA). This means church employees will not qualify for unemployment benefits if laid off.” to the Employee Handbook.
- Board is aware that HVAC systems will need to be replaced, and rather than creating a separate Equity account for future replacements, it was agreed that HVACs would just be replaced as needed.
- Board approved repairing the parking lot in August with a cost not to exceed $50,000.
- June minutes were approved. Cathy will find out why the minutes have not been posted on NSUMC.life.
Leading
- Financial Review and Stewardship update. The 2nd quarter LLC financial statements were presented to the Board. The LLC managers have voted to allocate $1,100 from Good Neighbor Housing and $6,700 from Good Neighbor Rentals to NSUMC. This money will go into other income on NSUMCs Profit and Loss Statement.
- Planning for the Estimate of Giving Campaign historically begins in September and October. The Board agreed to discuss plans for handling this campaign with ALC at the August meeting.
- The Board agreed to create its annual budget as usual. Once the Federation is complete, a new budget will be prepared for the new church.
- Federating Transition progress. The Transition team is waiting for Rev Adel to begin before they begin working.
- Family Ministries would like to have the computer in the fellowship hall replaced. Cathy will meet with Terry to have her submit a proposal for the necessary equipment.
- Cathy will look into the Guiding Principles to see if a guideline has been set in place for attorney review of contracts over a certain dollar amount.
- Primer school rented an extra room. The floors were repaired and the walls painted.
