Learning
Pastoral presentation and review of annual church mission and goals.
Mission:
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19 2025
Goals:
- Every ministry team, class or church group will identify (in one sentence) how what they do nourishes and builds up spiritual connections with God – to be read at the beginning of each gathering and possibly shared with the larger church because every church activity should bring us closer to God.
- We will inspire and support 50 people to engage for the first time in activities at NSUMC that are beyond the pew by participating in small groups, classes, service opportunities, ministry teams or other church roles beyond worship attendance by December 2025 because everyone has a unique gift to share in building the kingdom of God.
- We will increase our church’s impact on the world by inspiring and equipping 50%, approximately 225 members of our congregation to engage in outwardly facing service activities within the next year because our church and our world need to experience God through our service to the world.
Leadership Board Packet Approval Consent Agenda and discussion topics
- LLC report
- Good Neighbor Housing informed the Board that they will make a $10,000 contribution to NSUMC. It was decided to put that money in “Other Income”
- Good Neighbor Rentals informed the Board that they will be presenting a new lease to Primer Micro School with a 3% increase and ask for a commitment longer than 2 years.
- Cathy Sherry wanted to make sure that there was a new account set up for staff bonuses. The funding for this account will come from the Lead Pastors reduction in insurance costs in 2025.
- Membership dates for welcoming new members
- Chris will work with Bob Bergstrom.
- Facilities – The building maintenance team is interested in repaving the parking lot and reflooring the North Classroom wing in 2025. The Board would like to wait and see if Primer resigns their lease before investing in new flooring.
- The Board would like an updated report on the expenses paid to AV project. Chris also informed the Board that there are discussions with 5 Words as to how they can complete the sound and lighting project in a timelier manner.
Leading
- Stewardship Update – As of 1/21/25 there were 81 pledges totaling $330,000
- Leadership Board Guiding Spiritual Sentence – “The Leadership Board of North Scottsdale United Methodist Church prayerfully leads with gratitude and discernment, stewarding God’s gifts and ensuring every decision, action, and gathering nurtures spiritual connections that draw us closer to God’s mission and presence in our lives.”
- The Board updated the Guiding Principles to reflect that reporting of sensitive issues discussed in an Executive Session will not go through the group email.
- Fostering Adult Discipleship: Keith has gathered a group of people to be part of the discernment team. Their first goals will be to identify 1. What is Adult Learning, 2. What is the purpose of what they are doing, and 3. Identify any obstacles they may encounter. Chris would like to have them start experimenting with some of their ideas in the Fall.
