Following worship on November 21, the Membership Committee is holding a quarterly getting to know and your church gathering. Feel free to join us in Fellowship Hall behind the divider curtains. We’ll a take a moment to introduce yourselves, tell you about the ministries and mission of North Scottsdale UMC, take a tour of the church campus, and to answer any questions you may have. Your pastors will be joining us too! There is no obligation to join the church, but we use this gathering to become more familiar and to invite persons to unite in membership with North Scottsdale UMC. Please call the church office at (480) 948-0529 or email office@nsumc.com to make your reservation to attend.
![]() The second half of our fall session starts November 8th at 6:00pm via Zoom. We will be utilizing Adam Hamilton’s Incarnation: Rediscovering the Significance of Christmas. There are 4 sessions that include a matching video presentation. We would love to add new members and everyone is welcome to attend some or all of our meetings. Plan now to be a part of these special sessions led by the Rev. Leah Bergstrom. If you have any questions, please contact Rev. Bergstrom (pastorleah@nsumc.com) or Dinah Bahlman (dbahlman@hotmail.com). ![]() The NSUMC Missions Committee Christmas Angel sign up is live! You can register to give here. We ask that you spend $60 to $85 on no more than 2-3 large or 4-5 small gifts for each Angel. Wrap all of the gifts, put THE ANGEL'S NAME and ANGEL'S LETTERS & NUMBER on each gift, and deliver to the church on or before Sunday, December 12th. Put all gifts for an Angel into a big bag or box with the Angel's name and number on the box or bag, so they can be kept together easily when we take inventory and deliver to Golden Gate Community Center and Southwest Human Development. Drop off at the church during the 10am service any Sunday up to and including December 12th. If you have any questions, please call Mike Hair (480) 206-7022. Please join us at the 10:00 a.m. service on Sunday, December 19 for a special Christmas musical celebration featuring our Chancel Choir, Donna Marie Hartley, narrator, and instrumental ensemble. It is sure to warm your heart and fill you with the spirit of the Christmas season!
We are going to try and sew some Christmas quilts for the Veterans Hospital. If you would like to help with this project, plan to meet in Fellowship Hall on Wednesday, Nov. 17th from 1:00 - 4:00. We will need people to pin, sew and iron. You do not have to commit to the whole time - drop in and help as time allows!
We are planning to make more fidget quilts in the Spring. If you have zippers, large buttons, sew-on Velcro, seam binding, batting, or other washable doo-dads, we are collecting them for this project. ![]() You are invited to join the Wednesday 10 a.m. Advent Bible Study. The book (which you need to order) is: Light of the World: A Beginner’s Guide to Advent by Amy-Jill Levine, published by Abingdon Press. The class will be led by Pastor David Rennick. In Light of the World: A Beginner’s Guide to Advent, author, professor, and biblical scholar Amy-Jill Levine explores the biblical texts surrounding the story of the birth of Jesus. Join her as she traces the Christmas narrative through the stories of Zechariah and Elizabeth, Mary, the journey to Bethlehem, and the visit from the Magi. These stories open conversations around connections of the Gospel stories to the Old Testament, the role of women in first-century Jewish culture, the importance of Mary’s visitation and the revolutionary implications of Mary’s Magnificat, the census and the stable, and the star of Bethlehem and the flight to Egypt. Chapters Include: 1. The Meaning of Memory (Luke 1:5-25; 57-79, the story of Zechariah and Elizabeth) 2. The Promise of Potential (Gabriel’s announcement to Mary in Luke) 3. The Journey of Joy (Mary and Joseph travels from Nazareth to Bethlehem – Here readers see how the “manger” anticipates Jesus’ Last Supper; it is much more than a best of straw.) 4. The Gifts of the Gentiles (Matthew – the ancestry of Jesus, the gifts of the Magi, and the death of the innocents) We hope to see you on December 1 in Fellowship Hall at the church. We will offer a Zoom link for those unable to attend in person. If you have questions, please contact Gail Yates at 480-363-5063 or yatesgail.1@gmail.com |
