All children ages 5-18 are asked to join us in the fellowship hall (the large room just east of the sanctuary) for a FREE show that is open to the community. NSUMC is hosting the Mad Science “Fire & Ice Science Experiment Show". The NSUMC “Christmas Musical Celebration” is best suited for children ages 12 and up. You know your child and what works best for them. All are welcome at either experience.
This year the interactive show will be a presentation about fire, ice and snow! This spellbinding S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering and math) special event will introduce children to the power of fire and magic dry ice. Mad Science offers hands-on elementary-level workshops for students that complement concepts they're learning in school. Their interactive approach is sure to give students a deeper understanding of fundamental scientific principles. Blue Christmas (also called the Longest Night) is a day during the Advent season marking the longest night of the year. On this day, church services honor people who have lost loved ones and are experiencing grief. This worship service is traditionally held on or around the longest night of the year, which falls on or about December 21, the Winter Solstice. There is an interesting convergence for this day is also the traditional feast day for Saint Thomas the Apostle. This link invites making a connection between Saint Thomas’ struggle to believe in Jesus’ resurrection, the long nights just before Christmas, and the struggle with darkness and grief faced by those loving with loss.
The worship service often includes opportunities for expression of grief and pain as well as an opportunity to focus on the promise of hope. Candles are lit during the service; empty chairs are reserved as a way of commemorating those who have died during the year. The service will include prayers, poems, words of hope and music. Pastors Leah and David will be leading the Blue Christmas Service on Sunday, December 19 at 5pm. All are welcomed to attend. The UMW Ornament Exchange and Dinner is Monday, December 6 at 5:30pm at Maui Pasta. The address is 7704 E. Doubletree Ranch Rd. in Scottsdale. Cost is $20 per person. Please contact Cindy Bryant to sign up.
Come and help decorate the church sanctuary for the holiday this Saturday morning (the 27th) at 9am! Enjoy getting into the Christmas spirit with fun and fellowship (plus, the more people show up, the faster we get done!)
The Men’s Fellowship will meet in person this Friday, November 19, at 6:30am in the church library for our breakfast meeting. In January, the intent is to return to in-person meetings every Friday morning.
