In these crazy times, nobody needs any more drama in their lives - unless of course it’s the good kind of drama: Theatre Arts.
Since 1993, there’s been a good dose of that woven into the life of NSUMC. That was the year a small group of members formed the church’s first drama group, called “The NSUMC Theatre Troupe,” raised enough money to build a full-size portable stage in the (then) sanctuary and performed their first full-length, original musical drama, “The Treasures of the Mountain Mage” - thus beginning what would become a tradition of producing original, full-length Broadway-like productions every few years.
“Treasures” was followed in 1997 by “Dodge City Blues” - a light-hearted musical western that transported audiences back to the wild west in a adventure packed with cowboys, saloon girls, cattle rustlers and city slickers.
2001 brought about the group’s third originally written full-length production - a musical-comedy whodunit called “Murder! More or Less” - a zany 40s theatrical thriller-to-catch-a-killer.
By 2004, Drama had branched out to include so many other projects, and had become such an intrinsic part of congregational life that the Church Council adopted a motion to make Drama a fully recognized and organized church committee.
Today, the Drama Committee continues to lead, support and strengthen all areas of dramatic arts within the church, and strives to provide a positive experience for adults, youth and children who participate in theatrical & musical productions, as well as worship presentations & activities.
